At MITSports, player development is never confined solely to match days or routine syllabus work. Real progress happens when high-level instruction, tactical curiosity, and professional expectations align.
Last week, our learners took part in our latest professional enrichment day, an intensive, pitch-based masterclass led by former professional footballer and current West Bromwich Albion first-team coach Gavin Strachan, formerly of Celtic FC. Designed to bridge the gap between academic study and elite-level football, the session gave our players a genuine taste of life inside a top-flight environment.
Demanding Professional Standards with Gavin Strachan
Drawing on his wealth of experience coaching at the highest level of European and domestic football, Gavin set clear expectations from the first whistle. The session kicked off with high-tempo technical work focused on game-speed decision-making, spatial awareness, and crisp ball distribution.
Working through advanced match-scenario drills, learners were challenged to raise their intensity, play under fierce defensive pressure, and communicate with authority. Throughout each drill, Gavin emphasised not just the physical execution of a pass or run, but the tactical intelligence underpinning it.
Enrichment days like this reflect the core ethos of MITSports: providing aspiring players with the network, coaching calibre, and professional exposure needed to turn raw potential into match-winning performance.
Working under a coach of Gavin Strachan's pedigree was a transformative experience, and our learners rose to the standard with maturity and work rate. We look forward to seeing these tactical principles put into practice as our competitive fixtures continue this term.
