While books and lectures are important, the real test for any coach is on the grass. At MITSports, our Degree in Football Coaching and Management is built around this reality. We recently held our second Practical Experience Day, a session designed to give our students a taste of what life is really like in a professional football club.

Elite Training with Gavin Strachan

The highlight of the day was the arrival of Gavin Strachan, First Team Coach at Celtic FC. Having a coach of Gavin’s calibre on-site provided our students with an incredible advantage. He shared the exact standards and methods used at the highest level of the game, giving our learners a rare look at how pro clubs operate daily.

From the Classroom to the Pitch

The day was split into two clear parts to ensure students could use what they learned immediately:

  • The Morning Session: Students spent time in the classroom focusing on the core principles of coaching and how to plan an effective session.
  • The Afternoon Session: Everyone moved outside to the pitch. Students took the lead, running drills and managing players in a live, moving environment.

Building Confidence and Connections

This day was about more than just drills; it was about leadership. Our students led their own coaching segments and received honest, helpful feedback from Gavin Strachan himself. This type of mentorship is what helps our learners stand out when applying for jobs at professional clubs.

For the clubs looking for new talent and the families supporting our students, this event proves that MITSports graduates are prepared for the pressure and demands of the football industry.
